Title: Computing Always Ready and Available (CARA)

PI: Cyndi Pride, Beaufort County School District

Other collaborating institutions: George Lucas Educational Foundation; Trivantis; University of Virginia; University of Nebraska at Omaha

The goal of this project is to develop, promote, and maintain a website that will:

  • assist educators, developers, and researchers in understanding pedagogically sound, educational applications for handhelds

  • provide scenarios to illustrate the types of applications for use by teachers and students

  • provide reviews of current research on handhelds in education

  • provide links to sites for additional information

  • develop criteria to define effective uses for the educational application of handheld technology

This website will provide a global look at what is possible with handhelds. Our purpose is to become a resource to inform and shape the future direction of handhelds in education. As innovations occur and new devices are developed this website can serve as a platform for sharing ideas and developing strategies.

This project will foster and develop:

  • an increase in pedagogically sound uses of handhelds by teachers

  • new handheld applications to address needs identified by educators

  • an up-to-date resource for teachers, developers, and researchers
